Also worth highlighting is the panty-clad, originally castrato, character of Prince Andronicus, played by Barbara de Nunes-Cambraia, mainly because of his singing. During the emotional aria in which he confesses his love for Asteria, the audience did not even murmur during the premiere and devoured the piano position of her delicate but full mezzo-soprano with bated breath. The character's sudden escape from the stage with the last notes of this aria also gave the experience a dreamlike contour.
